SCANDINAVIAN SIMPLICITY

Design Statement/Philosophy

A fondness for bright airy spaces and an appreciation for the clean lines and wood tones common in Scandinavian furniture were primary elements incorporated into this comprehensive kitchen renovation. The active couple owners live in a late 1970’s contemporary town-home community. Raising children and an assortment of pets over the years certainly took its toll on the interior finishes so a complete renovation of the primary living space was undertaken.

Design Overview/Challenges

  • Primary Goals: Proper ventilation for the gas range, thoughtfully designed storage and a generous work-space. A casual island dining for two within the kitchen while opening the space to the dining room. Relocating laundry access out of the kitchen!
  • The primary living space is at the lower level of the townhome- a full story below street level with the kitchen located fully underground with limited natural light.
  • Widening the opening to the adjacent Dining Room and Replacing the French doors with new units allows natural light to penetrate deeper into the space.
  • Flipping the laundry access and consolidating the fridge and pantry storage on one wall completely changed the kitchen layout for the better!
  • Assisting the client as their vision shifts with aging- the color selectable LED undercabinet task lighting and the gray quartz sink provide visual contrast to the counters.
  • Appliances are in a matte white finish with bronze pulls and copper toned accents- in perfect coordination to the Quartersawn Oak & White painted cabinetry.
  • Wide drawers in the island allow easy access to storage for pots, pans & lids. A pullout to the left of the range organizes utensils and knives convenient to the owners preferred prep space.
BEFORE AFTER

Having completed 3 separate projects with Custom Dwellings we are so thrilled with the outcome of our bath renovation. Mike (Project Manager) was very diligent at keeping the work area clean- it's an impossible task and we get that! We enjoyed having the tile installer Jack in our home and the overall quality of the work exceeded our expectations once again.
