CALMING RETREAT
2025

Design Statement/Philosophy

Sometimes all you need is a shift in the color pallette! We have made a few prior updates to this 1978 home- rear porches back in 2019, and most recently the basement bar & powder bath in 2023. Updating materials to freshen the look and feel of the bath coupled with major improvements in lighting made a big impact - this timeless color scheme will last for years to come.

Design Overview/Challenges

  • The clients regularly travel to England to visit family and friends and wanted to incorporate key features into the new bathroom that they were acustomed to in the UK- including heated towel bars.
  • The heated floor has an intricate glass and marble tile mosaic, spanning the length of the room creating a permanent tile rug. The numerous grout joints within the inlay offer increased slip resistance for safety while adding aesthetic interest. A multicolor tile inlay at the shower incorporates the sea glass hues from the glass tile rug and matte glass penny tile shower floor.
  • The freestanding soaking tub opposes the double vanity and is set into an alcove wrapped in a painted rail and style wainscot.
  • Converting the narrow door of the water closet to a decorative sliding barn door & eliminating door casing allowed a 6 inch wider opening- a critical change to improve access.
  • Inset style cabinetry with furniture detailing reminiscent of a fitted cottage home incorporates thoughtful storage in the flanking linen towers.Though similar, the linen towers are several inches different in width- making up the difference for the vanities to be equal in size. Each vanity has an in-drawer convenience outlet.
BEFORE AFTER

Having completed 3 separate projects with Custom Dwellings we are so thrilled with the outcome of our bath renovation. Mike (Project Manager) was very diligent at keeping the work area clean- it's an impossible task and we get that! We enjoyed having the tile installer Jack in our home and the overall quality of the work exceeded our expectations once again.
